The survival of the world leading Daresbury Laboratory, in the North West of England is under threat from a ~£20M target of cuts announced by STFC in December 2007. These cuts are part of a wider range of cuts to science within the UK, precipitated by an £80M shortfall in the funding of the Science and Technology Facilities Council. This campaign is organised to support the continued future of Daresbury Laboratory as a science attractor for the new Daresbury Science Innovations Campus and to ensure that the hundreds of millions of pounds of tax payers money invested over more than 40 years in creating and developing this national asset is not lost.
LATEST (July 15): Good news at last! Government announces £65M investment at Daresbury, this is comprised of:
- £50M for the Hartree Centre, an advanced computational science centre.
- £30M for a new Detector Systems Centre based jointly at the Daresbury and Harwell Science and Innovation Campuses.
